Makeover….Master Bathroom

You know how you buy a house….paint the rooms and decorate it to your liking?  Then you go about your life….You’re busy raising your kids, working and just doing stuff.  Then one day, you stop and look around and everything seems run-down?  So, with that being said…please don’t judge me.

I forgot to get “before” shots of this makeover and did the best I could after we started. 




I painted this bathroom back in ‘04.  I made 8” stripes on the wall in the exact same color but different sheens.  If you look closely you can see the sheen of the satin paint next to the flatter eggshell sheen.





Step 1…..We removed the HUGE 7ft by 4 ft. mirror (without breaking). Not an easy task but we did it.  Above are the remnants of the Black Mirror Glue that I hear is the best mirror adhesive.



We removed all the glue spots and patched them up.



Bought 2 matching decent sized mirror from Kirklands….on sale (cha-ching).  Glued them to the wall, with a waterproof adhesive for mirrors.



Then onto this wasted space under the vanity. For the record… I’ve never sat in a chair to apply make-up here….ever….It just became a dumping ground.   (Sorry about picture quality)



We removed the quarter round along the baseboard under the entire vanity.  We matched the baseboard for this section and put new quarter round in. 



We made a lower shelf and a second shelf above.  Now this space is good for something.




With the mirrors installed….the brass lights replaced with a bronze antique fixture to match the frames.  All the other fixtures (faucets, light switch plates, towel rods, etc.) were replaced with nickel fixtures.



The area between the two mirrors was a bit sparse…so we added a small cabinet.  This one had no crown molding at the top or fascia on the bottom, so we added that after install.



While painting the walls, it’s very easy to get the wall paint onto the ceiling.



Instead of touching up the ceiling…we just added crown molding to the entire bathroom interior.  Towel racks were replaced by hooks.



Baskets placed into the lower portion of the prior bench area under the vanity.  Shoes on the upper shelf for easy access.

Now, if I can just keep my junk contained to the little plate under the cabinet…I’ll be happy.

Gallery Wall

If you’re anything like me, I bet you take lots of pictures and you don’t print them out?



When I came upon this picture on Pinterest, I knew this would solve the world’s all my problems.  I got my measurements from this site, which is the lady who took the original picture (very good instructions here if you want to do one yourself).  Then, off I went to the builder’s store to pick up all my supplies.  We measured, cut, and assembled.  I used wood filler so the screws wouldn’t show.  Then I painted the shelves black. 



Once dry, my sweet husband helped me measure and screw them into the wall.



I grabbed a hodge-podge of miscellaneous frames around the house.  I recently found the hands at Hobby Lobby and decided to spray paint the whole lot. 



Since the shelves are black, we opted to spray paint everything white.



We installed 2 sets of the gallery shelves. The first set is 22” wide …



and the second set is 35” wide.  What is perfect about these shelves is I can change things up without putting all kinds of holes in the wall.



I love these hands!!  I want to go in and paint their nails next!  Haha



And another favorite, my glass head from Pier One.  About half my friends say this is too creepy for them!! Not me…it inspires me to dress up for Halloween!

Decorating….a Small Bathroom

People have been wondering what I’ve been up to lately….Well, it was time to do something about this College-looking bathroom.  That pedestal sink didn’t leave me much room for storage.



Scored the old wallpaper then proceeded to remove…..joy!



That wallpaper has been up since at least ‘98 when we bought this house.  As you can see, it was a bear to scrape off.  The existing paper and paste had settled in quite comfortably and did not want to be removed.



I came across this embossed paintable paper from Lowes.  I was a little scared to hang it since I’ve never done any wallpapering before (other than borders).  It had a bit of a learning curve but it went up very easily.  They say you don’t even have to paint the paper but I went with a light yellow.



Had a little bubble in the second long sheet of paper I put up which I couldn’t remedy…..so I just placed a “happy” sign in front of it



Changed out the fixtures to polished nickel and thought this light fixture was pretty cool.



Wanted to use red as an accent, so this little Red-Man found at TJ Maxx fit nicely.  Since the paper is thick and it butted up to the end of the wall where it turns, I put up one of those plastic guards on the edge of the wall so the paper won’t peel back or rip.



I love the cubby-rage that all the stores are endorsing, and these fabric cubby’s fit perfectly in the open area of the vanity under the drawers.



Ta-Da!!  This whole project was completed in well under $1000.  I feel so grown-up now!

DIY….UpLevel your Phone Case

This past summer I stumbled upon a really cool idea on pinterest.  This teenager had drawn all over her iphone case with Sharpie’s and it worked.  Since I had just gotten my new white phone case….I wasn’t ready to embellish it yet. 



I thought I’d let the case get a little grungy before attempting this. (It resembled the grungy look of white crocs… Ugh!)



Then I just marked off some horizontal lines in pencil.  Grabbed all my favorite colors and proceeded to enhance.



Ta Da!  What a fun and inexpensive project.  Now, don’t ask me how I can erase this or bring it back to white, because I think what's done is done.
