Art Quotes doodled

Not much time for art these days, so I did what I do when I’m time-challenged.

Grabbed my square watercolor paper and started stenciling on it.   Then watercoloring via w/c pencils.

Something needed to be done with all that white space….looked like a good place to get some font practice in.

Pulled up some of my favorite Art Quotes to write in those areas.

Used some of my new Stabilo fine point markers for the floral areas.

Just coloring fun here,

and here,

and here.

Had to go back and re-apply the black outlines cuz the watercolor will overlay on the lines and dull….them….down.

Quotes:
  • Everything that needs to be said has already been said but no one was listening, so it must be said again- Andre Gide
  • Just get up and do your thing and speak- Lamar Harrington
  • One eye sees the other eye feels- Paul Klee
  • Treat a work of art like a prince, let it speak to you first- Arthur Schopenhauer
  • Writing helps me wake up the rest of life- ?
  • The moment you cheat for the sake of beauty, you know you are an artist- David Hockney

Doodle Directory Giveaway

Promo

I am so excited to share this with you.  I haven’t worked on my doodle directory in a few years. Recently I finished another 60 doodle images that make the 6th set in my doodle directory series. I've done a few simple drawings in this set which I haven't included in previous sets.

I’ll show you a little behind the scenes drawing as these doodles came together.

If you’ve been following my Instagram account then you’ve probably seen these before.

But it’s fun to revisit them here.

IMG_20140825_084537

I find that as I’m working on my bigger projects like my Ballerina and Diver and since I can’t (or won’t) lug these drawings to work or on vacation. That doodling in my small moleskine, keeps me sane and happy.  My hand still gets line practice and my head stays in the game with colors and shapes.  And as far as my drawing goes…..doodling has definitely helped…..hands down Smile

I am influenced by so many artists out there.  And half of them probably don’t even claim the label “Artist”.

IMG_20140915_164718

I’ve seen a ton of wonderful doodle work on Instagram, by fellow doodlers, illustrators, painters, watercolorists, art journallers, and zentangle people.

IMG_20141026_160227

So much inspiration!!  Instagram has a whole community of artsy-doodley interactive and like minded folks.

Artists are a sensitive lot….but we have to get over that and show our work.  I’m not one for “closet artistry”.   It’s amazing the motivation and suggestions that people give from blog post feedback and instagram sharing.

I’ve worked more in photoshop on this last set.  I wanted the colors more consistent.

Photo-editing is a must if you want to put these kind of things up for sale.

Block Letters….L and N

L_

Continuing on with my Block Letter Series…..here’s the L all scanned and stark.

L_blue

Once scanned, I can digitally color the doodle in.

L_green
L_yellow

Changing the color scheme is easy and a good way to test out color choices. But….

IMG_20140807_105028

But,…I am so limited digitally.  The digital letter lacks lots of the smaller details that can be brought in manually.  Could be,…. I ‘m just not using the right tools.

L_x

With hand drawing, I can get into all those nooks and crannies…lay more detail down.  It’s more spontaneous.

N_all

I’ll give it a thumbs up for vibrancy.  I find my digital doodling a bit inferior to my hand doodling.

But it’s nice to have options Smile

Small….Random….Projects

Ran1

Even though I haven’t been posting much here….I’m still infatuated with color!!

Ran2

So, I started on more Doodles for my Doodle Directory prints.

Ran4

My 5 x 8 moleskines are perfect for sectioning off 8 squares and then taking this with me anywhere.

Since I’m still pretty unsure of myself with watercolors…..

Ran6

A small floral project wasn’t too intimidating.

Ran7

Seeing so many interesting people doing yoga over on instagram these days…..this inspired me to sketch this pose from @day1yoga….(I really wanted to do a graphite sketch, but unfortunately I didn’t have all my graphite pencils or my blending stumps!)

Ran8

So….I adapted.

Ran10

And since I was adapting, I might as well play some too!!  Here Life is Imitating Art!!  Haha Smile

IMG_20140720_085654

And, since I’m into bracelets too, I scored this hamsa bracelet at 65% off recently!!  Thought it went well with my drawing Smile

Ran9

Even doodled a bit in my baby moleskine (3 x 5).

Well, there you have it!  Although small….they each served a purpose!! Anyone else leaning toward smaller projects these days?

Block Letters…beginning..A.B

Block1

Since I’m re-grouping from my last major Art Project…the Ballerina, I pulled out my moleskine to doodle up some letters in Block Style.

Block2

I free-handed the letters and made the letter the negative space.

Block3

Can’t go wrong with b/w stripes as dividers for the colors.

Block4

Next the B….which is anything but boring!

Block5

Did a Mandela look with my compass, then added swirlies on top.

Block6

Kept the circles white, kinda looks like bubbles.

Block7

I am out-of-sequence here cuz this isn’t a “C”.

Block8

If I were to do the “E” again, I’d keep the left vertical line straight…not sure if I like the curvy E.

About Me

My photo
By day...I work in the Healthcare field, where every .. i.. has to be dotted and every ..t.. has to be crossed. This blog is the place where I can let myself go and have some fun. I am on a journey. A journey I started a long time ago, but it has been a bit sidetracked with Navy Wife relocations and raising kids. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I have got some time for me. No, I will not be one of those moms walking around the house with Empty Nest Syndrome, I have got way too much to do, to learn, to create. Sure, once the kids are gone I will miss them....but hey, there is always the phone, the email, the texting and the Plane tickets! I love my life and my family and It is fun moving into this new stage. I am into Digital Scrapbooking, photography, journaling, Art Journaling and Drawing. I am a do-it-yourselfer and I am trying to teach myself to draw. I am finding that it takes a lot of patience, lots of practice and a good eraser! And if you're really curious there's a 3 part Interview by Eileen: HERE All the best, Eden
