I can’t believe I will actually be participating in List It Tuesday…. on Tuesday. Yes, the delights of this Blog Boss!!!
Here is a quick list of the Top 10 words spoken by my Daughter to me this past weekend. We spent 36 hours side by side as I drove her on a college visit to another state. I think it’s funny how not only is she one to not talk a lot (at least to me), but 50% of the words she likes to communicate with are made up of 4 letters or less! Hmmmmm……I would be floored if she becomes a public speaker at any time in her life! Floored!!
Teen-Lingo Definitions:
- Touché- When I’ve figured out the right answer to why she does something.
- Whatever- When she really doesn’t want to do what I ask her to do. Or is stalling.
- What- If I look at her at any time.
- Stop- If I don’t avert my eyes after she’s said “What”.
- Fine- If I tell her not to do something she is wanting to do.
- Random- If I communicate with her about my day, or make a statement about life in general.
- Sure- If I ask her a Yes or No question
- Obviously- If I agree with what she is doing
- Congratulations- If I figure out something that I didn’t know before….usually pertaining to her school life, her social life or her sports life.
- MOM !!- If #3 and #4 hasn’t diverted my attention and now she really means it!
If I was really good at drawing I’d make it look like her feet are up on the dashboard. Not that we drive that way or anything.
I use the big Copic-like markers for my skin tone drawings these days. I am not happy with the flesh tones in the Faber Castell series. The ink tends to appear too streaky.
Hard to get to know somebody who doesn’t want to be known…..probably because they have NO CLUE who they are yet…..They know what they can do, they just don’t know what to think about it.

OH THANK YOU FOR THIS! I thought I was the only one who was suddenly dropped into a land where I don't understand the language. My 12 yr old speaks her language with the added 'visual sign language'. Now I know why parents in the olden days used to say "keep rolling your eyes and they'll stay that way"! Hee hee. Love the drawing!

What great characterisation. Were we like this as teenagers? I don't remember being so short on communication. I think I'm more like this with my mother now I'm in my 40s!

I work with the youth girls at church and I just spent an entire afternoon working on a personal project with two of them the other day. Random was a word I heard about a gazillion times!

I recognize 9 out of the 10 teen vocab. words..It's good to know my child is normal then...I love your art piece! It's colors are so lively:)
Ah, the teen years! All moms have to go through them....and the kids do too. But somehow we survive it. My daughter was the same way and now we're best friends.

Nice insight in your blue caption. I'm glad you don't seem to take it too personally. I feel guilty just thinking about being like that! I am now still and almost thirty.
I LOVE that drawing- it totally reminds me of when I was a teenager and my mom used to pick me up from school. She'd immediately start asking questions, which exhausted me, so I would "tune her out" with my walkman. Now I find myself asking Gracie excited questions when SHE gets in the car after school, and her tuning *ME* out!!

Hang in there! once your daughter moves off to college, she will begin to understand all you've done for her! Believe me! I speak from experience - single mom moving two daughters in & out of college dorms, housing, funky apartments etc...
I remember the "rolling eyes" more than the words....
I'm trying to think what my youngest daughter would say, but for some reason it won't pop into my head I think she's been away at college to long. And the two older ones had an entirely different vernacular, but I can certainly relate. Great post!

Ah, yes, the relationship between teen daughter and mother is an interesting one, isn't it? I don't have any children, but I can remember back when I was a teenager (I'm not going to count the years). My poor mom.

I am really enjoying reading all your comments! I think each and everyone of us can relate! Yep, it's pretty hard NOT to take these teens personally, that's why I made this....allows me to separate from it and gain some much needed perspective!!.....hopefully not too much longer!!

Ahh... wasn't so long ago I was right there... do you get the rolling of the eyes too? The good news is that they grow out of it... thank goodness!
